Accession 368 is comprised of legal papers concerning patent litigation and other legal matters. The records relate to several suits including the wire wheel patent, 1924-1940; Selden patent, 1895-1939; steel piston, 1917-1940; parts manufacturing, 1930-1934. The papers also include patent data, proving ground material, experimental engineering records (including personnel list for 1932), testing records, bumper design records, acoustics design records, and crankshaft design drawings. There are photographs and technical drawings throughout the accession. In Accession 631 are engineering records maintained by Olsen including statistics, technical drawings, engine numbering systems, cubic inch displacement information, weights and measures for product and parts specifications, and product and model numbering systems. The accession covers concept, prototype design and construction phases of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and English vehicles.

Niels H. F. Olsen was born in Nottero Tunsberg, Norway in 1890. After completing primary education, he studied mechanical engineering at a technical training college, immigrating to the United States in 1911. Olsen began his career at Ford Motor Company's Highland Park Plant in 1915 and over the next decade worked in a wide variety of jobs at Highland Park and the River Rouge Plant. Industrialist and philanthropist Henry Ford, born July 30, 1863, grew up on a farm in what is now Dearborn, Michigan. Mechanically inclined from an early age, he worked in Detroit machine shops as a young man and became an engineer at the Edison Illuminating Company in 1891.
